A sprocket is a wheel with interlocking teeth, designed to mesh with accurately spaced links or blocks on a chain or cable. It's a solid or spoked gear that engages with a roller chain to transmit motion. The sprocket tooth profile must ensure that the chain links can smoothly and easily enter and exit the mesh, minimizing impact and contact stress during engagement, and also be easy to manufacture. Commonly used sprocket end face tooth profiles consist of three circular arcs and a straight line, referred to as a three-circular-arc-and-one-straight-line tooth profile.
